Object of my Desire by R.L Kenderson

Book Blurb:

A romance author, a cover model, a book signing … a crush.

Ordinary women like me know we shouldn’t fall for beautiful men like Travis Zehler, one of the hottest cover models in romance fiction. But, sometimes, we can’t help ourselves.

When I meet him at a book signing, my attraction to him is instant. I’m infatuated, and I can’t stop thinking about him.
Even though I have doubts he’d ever be interested, I invite Travis to attend a book signing with me. And he says yes.

My fantasy comes true when he takes me to his bed, and the more time we spend together, the more I see that Travis isn’t some object to be desired.

He’s a man with a past. A man who’s been burned. A man who’s learned to keep his guard up.

I want to show him he can trust again, but when our confidence in each other is shaken, I begin to wonder if happily ever afters are only for my romance novels.

My Review:

This book is every literary fans dream idea, the gorgeous cover model who falls in love with the quirky indie romance author. It is a trope that has been done before and may sound a bit cheesy but I can guarantee that this book is not at all like that. This idea grows into a sweet, funny yet interesting storyline that you will thoroughly enjoy reading. It will leave you smiling and give you renewed faith in the thought that a regular girl really can get the gorgeous boy. If you are looking for a fantastic romance book with humble realistic characters that will draw you in and leave you feeling happy and smiling then this is the book for you.

Sydney is a romance author who after lots of year’s hard work was finally able to give up her job and dedicate herself to become a successful full-time author. She attends a book signing convention along with her best friend and PA Harper, where they meets a fellow author Angela who introduces them to the model on the front cover of her books, Travis. At the convention they all spend time together and Travis and Sydney get on really well. Realising she is attracted to Travis, she wants them to be more but doesn’t think they are in the same league. However, they share a kiss but then part ways.

Time passes and Sydney does not hear from Travis but she cannot get him out of her mind. So, after a little bit of persuasion from her niece Lexi she buys a photo of Travis to feature as her next cover model and sends him an invite to attend a book signing with her. He accepts and this leads to the start of something beautiful. But can two people from different worlds come together or will it tear them apart?

Travis is a male model and personal trainer who has been hurt in the past by his ex-girlfriend Chrissy, who was jealous of his fans and popularity resulting in a lack of trust. Travis is everything you would not expect from a model and is extremely humble and low maintenance except for his dedication to healthy eating and fitness. His last girlfriend was part of that world and felt like she needed to become more beautiful to be worthy of being with Travis and this has a profound effect on him.

Travis is drawn to Sydney’s laid back attitude as she doesn’t wear make-up or dress to impress. She eats whatever she likes and is comfortable in her own skin, which is a novelty for Travis given the people he surrounds himself with. Can Travis let go of his past and fully trust Sydney? And can Sydney ever let go of feeling not good enough for someone like Travis?

I loved Sydney and she is such an amazing character. She is quirky, lovable and funny. Her attitude to life and the way she views herself is beautiful and sends such a great message. She exercises to be healthy but she eats what makes her happy and her happiness is what is most important. I actually felt like I was watching myself sometimes and I loved that because it made the character so much more believable.

Travis is so incredibly hot and sexy whist also being sweet and caring at the same time. I really liked the way he loved Sydney for her natural almost plainness. It gives hope to all us normal natural looking girls! But I was a little frustrated with him at the beginning of the book and the way he avoided Syd. He kissed her and then left things with no real explanation which did irritate me a bit. But as time went on he did make up for things and when he did my word was it steamy. The sex was sizzling hot.

Overall, I really liked this book but if I am being honest it was one that kind of grew on me. At the beginning I thought it was funny and kind of sweet but it did not drag me in or make me crave more. However, the more I read the more involved I became. I particularly liked that we saw some of Sydney’s writing from the epilogue of her book and it great. At that point in the story I was really starting to get concerned that I wasn’t going to get the happily ever after that I desperately wanted. This book is ultimately about characters who are portrayed as real people, with real emotions and real issues to overcome and it was great to read. I would recommend this book.

Sin of Love (Illusion Duet Book 2) by L.M Halloran

Book Blurb:

The riveting conclusion to the Illusions Duet…

GIDEON

She took me with her when she left.
A day.
A thousand days.
It doesn’t matter.
She blew out the flame inside me and now
I’m in the dark.

DEIRDRE

Suffering is the cloak that shelters.
The mask that protects fragile skin.
And happiness is something for those
who have suffered less.

Happiness doesn’t live here,
in the house of broken dolls.

Only sin.

Author’s Note: This duet takes place in the world of the Vision Series but can be read as a standalone. Mature themes. HEA guaranteed.

My Review:

At the end of the first book I was unsure what to expect with this book because I did not think it would be possible to be as equally drawn in and enthralled. But I wasn’t, in fact this book pulled me in and wowed me so much more than the first. I liked that this was told through dual perspectives and we got to see into Gideon’s beautifully exceptional mind.

This book is quite unique as a romance book because for at least half of the book the two main characters are apart but for me I felt their connection just as strongly. The plot picks up where the cliff hanger left us after the first book and sees Deirdre back in the hands of her tormentor. We are exposed to the horror that she has to go through to survive and the betrayal that she endures from someone she trusted. The shocking events that she is exposed to are enough to break anyone but Deirdre stays strong and continues to fight safe in the knowledge that she is keeping the people that she loves safe.

Gideon allows himself to wallow in self-pity for a couple of weeks after Deirdre leaves him and no amount of support from his friends can help him recover from the aching loss. When she doesn’t return as quickly as expected Nate realises that her plan failed and that she needs help from the people that promised to stay away. So with the help of Dominick and his enigmatic Irish friend Liam they track down Deirdre and set about freeing her. But the Deirdre that they rescue is not the same one that left.

Whilst Deirdre is irreparably changed from her experience the same can be said for Gideon as he is forever changed from having to live without her and safe in the knowledge that he never wants that to happen again. So he fights for their relationship and he fights to heal Deirdre of her demons. He constantly tells her that he is not afraid of her dark and that he will set the world on fire to bring her the light. It is comments like this that made me swoon for Gideon and the love that he has for Deirdre, even with her flaws and baggage, is breath-taking. I think everyone deserved to be loved in the way that they love each other.

What I also liked about this book is that they took their time to re-build the relationship starting with a friendship. Gideon taught Deirdre how to live, how to trust and to no longer be afraid of sex or intimacy. They do not fall straight into bed and it just makes the characters all the more believable. But my word when they do it is steamy, sensual and sets their world on fire. It is incredibly hot and it almost felt like I was intruding on something so pure.

Throughout this book there are numerous plot twists and the majority of them I did not see coming. I felt like I was on a rollercoaster of emotions with each new event. This book has a happy ever after and the epilogue left me with the biggest smile on my face. I think if any two characters deserve to find happiness it is without a shadow of a doubt Deirdre and Gideon. This book will stay with you long after you finish reading and I will be very surprised if you don’t go back to read this duet over and over again.

Delivered (The Devil’s Duet Book 2) by Eva Charles

Book Blurb:

Delivered, Book 2 of The Devil’s Duet, is not a standalone. It should be read after reading Depraved.

Gabrielle Duval belongs to me.
I’ve made sure of that.

Now it’s time to eliminate the man who kept us apart.
My father.
The devil himself.

His reign of terror ends here.
On my terms.

Those who are triggered by dark storylines, please proceed cautiously!

My Review:

This book picks up straight after the jaw dropping cliff hanger that book one left us on and my review will contain spoilers if you have not already read Depraved. If you read my review on book one you will know how much I absolutely loved it and how much I was looking forward to the follow up. I was not expecting for this book to be as good as the original but it truly was and more than lived up to my high expectations.

At the beginning of this book I was unsure if I was going to enjoy the direction of the plot and found Gabrielle’s behaviour and rationale almost annoying. She made decisions that I found exasperating but it did enhance the bereavement storyline and made that and Gabrielle’s behaviour all the more believable. She pushed JD away but it was more out of frustration and not knowing how to deal with his controlling behaviour rather than him actually deserving it. I think the feelings I had towards the book and Gabrielle at the beginning was more out of defence given my love for JD.

This book dives more into the background and childhood of ‘Julian’ and ‘Elle’ who grew up with responsibilities far greater than any children their age should have to, forcing them apart at the same time. This lead to them growing up to be JD and Gabrielle and trying to recover from their pasts. But will they be forever trapped by the sins of their fathers.

I did not think it was possible but my love for JD probably tripled in this book. He has flaws, is possessive and jealous but he is so much more than that. Sadly, JD is more than aware of his flaws and the negative view that he has for himself will always be worse than his actual personality. He believes that he was raised by the Devil and cannot possibly be a good person after everything that he has been through and the things he has done just to survive. But I disagree and in my opinion he is constantly proving how good he is. When the time comes for him to make a decision between being good or bad he has all the tools that he needs to make the right decision, but does that mean he will do the right thing? Or will the draw to avenge his past and protect his future be too strong?

As with the first book, when JD and Gabrielle finally allow themselves to be in a relationship they are unbelievably hot and made for each other. Their chemistry is smoking hot and the sex is just as steamy as in part one. It has elements of kink and BDSM but at the same time it is beautiful to witness and not at all sleazy. JD believes he is incapable of making love and that kink is all he knows but in-between the sex it is more than clear that he knows how to show his love.

In this duet we are introduced to some great secondary characters including JD’s brothers Gray and Chase who I am desperate to know more about. I actually thought the next book would be about Gray and the girl he likes called Mae, but their relationship became turbulent towards the end of this story leaving me even more desperate for information. So imagine my surprise when I read that the next book will feature JD’s sexy as sin, bossy head of security and best friend Smith. As much as I wanted Gray this also makes me happy because I am more than sure he will make a fantastic sexy male lead.

It is important for me to point out that there are issues discussed in this book which may be triggers for some people. There is discussion of sex acts against children, which is very hard to listen to but it did have its place within the plot and added a great deal to the characters and their rationale. It also added a whole new dimension of hate towards a person in the book who already will make your skin crawl.

Overall, I loved this book and the duet as a whole, very much and could not recommend them more. This book is full of drama, angst, secrets, lies and some extremely hot sex. It will take you on a rollercoaster of emotions but once you are on the ride there is no way you will want to get off. You will devour both of these books to find out all of the secrets. But ultimately it will leave you feeling happy and maybe a little hot under the collar. I cannot wait for the next book in the series, bring it on please Ms Charles!

My Review:

There are some books that you read which draw you in and take over your life. You choose to give up socialising, sleeping and sometimes even eating so you can read just one more chapter. For me that is a sign of a great book and that is exactly what happened to me when I started reading Depraved. I was captivated from the very beginning and I just had to keep reading because the storyline was so fantastic that it kept me hooked.

The story is told from dual perspectives and focuses on the relationship of Julian (AKA JD) and Gabrielle. They grew up together on the same estate, as Gabrielle’s parents worked for JD’s family. But as they grew up they became childhood sweethearts and fell deeply in love. But their relationship came to an abrupt halt when JD cheated and Gabrielle was sent away to boarding school. She holds great anger and resentment against JD for causing her to be separated from her family but mostly her pain is from a broken heart.

Fifteen years later JD enters Gabrielle’s life again with a deliciously dirty proposition where he promises to pay for her mum’s cancer treatment if she agrees to submit to him sexually. This results in them entering a sexy, dangerous game for control. But JD has secrets and reasons for his indecent proposal that he is not keen to share.

From the minute we meet JD I knew I loved him. He portrays himself as dark, depraved and dangerous but it is very obvious that there is a softer side to him. That softer side is what makes his more dangerous side sexy. The love and care he has for his brothers, particularly Zack is sometimes heart-breaking to witness. Even though JD, Chase, Gray and Zack have a father it is very obvious they were not raised by any sort of loving parent and they are all dealing with their childhood and the heartache in their own ways. I loved each of the brothers and hope they all get their own stories. But if JD’s caring, sexy, smirk and personality don’t win you over then his dominance in the bedroom definitely will. Holy crap some of the sex scenes in this book are scorching hot and I wanted more!

I actually liked Gabrielle as a female lead. She does not automatically submit to JD and she fights for control with sass and sarcasm at every opportunity. She has grown up to be a strong independent woman and she does not let JD take that from her. She knows that he owns her heart and always will do but she does not let him take it easily. She demands answers and tries to be his equal. But she is still plagued by insecurities of the past.

There are a lot of plot twists and secrets in this book that I am desperate to know the answers to. But maddeningly this book ends on one hell of a cliff-hanger. I was literally shouting at my kindle because I wanted to know what happens. But this book is a duet and so book two will have an outcome of the cliff hanger and all the answers to my questions, I hope!

Overall, I loved this book. It is dark, sexy and incredibly hot with lots of plot twists to keep you hooked. The sex and particularly JD will get you extremely hot under the collar. But mostly I want to save JD and I want to see if he and Gabrielle are capable of getting the happily ever after that he is sure is out of their reach. I can’t wait for book two.

What the Heart Wants (Foreign Hearts Book 1) by Rebecca Hunter

Book Blurb:

It was a chance to follow my heart.
With my camera and an around-the-world ticket, I arrived in Stockholm with a plan
to satisfy my wanderlust
to build my dream career.

Then I met Niklas,
my hot, moody neighbor
with questionable manners and a fresh gash over his eye.

I thought I knew where I was going when I left my old life behind.
But what if my heart wants
two different things?

A version of this book was originally published as Stockholm Diaries, Caroline. What the Heart Wants is that story told in first person. If you like your stories in third person, Stockholm Diaries, Caroline is still available, too! What the Heart Wants is a full-length romance with a Happily for Now ending. The second book in this duet, The Map of My Heart, is the continuation of Niklas and Caroline’s journey.

My Review:

Aww this book is so incredibly good, I don’t even know where to start. If you are looking for a sweet, classic story that shows how two people can fall in love in a short space of time then this book is for you. I guarantee it will make you smile and will give you all the feels, but mostly it will reconfirm your love of a good romance book.

Caroline is going through a dry spell in her life, wishing that she had travelled after college instead of choosing to stay behind with her boyfriend who she doesn’t really love. Then a summer job at a magazine comes up that offers Caroline the chance to tour the world and get paid for her photography skills, so she jumps at the opportunity and agrees even though taking the job means leaving her family, friends and boyfriend behind, she knows that she needs to go. So she travels to Sweden to meet up with her college friend who did go travelling only to settle in Sweden with her husband Filipe, who took Caroline’s ticket when she backed out. Caroline loves the beauty that comes with Sweden and the freedom that having an adventure entails. Then one night, while she is out photographing the sunrise she is harassed by a drunk guy and saved but a gorgeous stranger, who just so happens to live in the apartment opposite. However, they don’t get off to the best start when he slams the door in her face when she offers him a sweet thank you.

Niklas is a Swedish national who has just moved back to Sweden for his work. He is a deeply private person and initially appears to be very untrusting of the enigmatic Mexican girl that his is inexplicably drawn to. It seems to be that fate is drawing them together and showing them that maybe they are meant to be together. But Niklas has secrets. Is he willing to trust Caroline and let her in? Also, does it matter what fate is telling them as Caroline is only planning on staying in Sweden for one month and then her job will take her to her next destination. Would she be prepared to give up her dreams for a guy that she hardly knows? Finally, will two people who have enough chemistry to set a room on fire, actually get to find their happily ever after?

You will have to read the book to get the answers to the questions and when you do uncover all the secrets that this book holds I will accept a thank you. I am very sure that you will enjoy this book and love it as much as I did. The ending for this book most definitely works as a fitting conclusion to this story but I know that I personally was shouting out for more and wishing for another book. There is going to be a book two and I cannot wait to read it.

I should point out that this book is a re-print of a book called The Stockholm Diaries – Caroline, which was told from a third person perspective. This book has been changed into the first person and told from the perspective of Caroline. I have not read the other version to compare it to, but personally I know that I prefer to read books with a first person narrative. The other book is still available for purchase and the storyline is the same. So you do get to choose between first or third person perspectives. Personally I think this is a really clever idea by Rebecca Hunter, to give the reader a choice to read based on their preference. But, my review reflects the book that I read and I cannot compare it to the other. But based on the plot itself I would argue that either would be great to read.

Overall I felt that this book was beautiful, sweet and very engaging. It was hot in the right places and featured the right amount of suspense and secrets to keep you hooked. This book definitely will leave you smiling and thinking about love long after you finish the book. It may even give you a little bit of wanderlust. I could not recommend this book more.

Wrecked (Willow Creek Book 2) by A.K. MacBride

Book Blurb:

What would you do for the one you love?
Me?
I traded my freedom for hers.
But then she betrayed me and left me to rot without so much as a goodbye.
You know how they say you need to forgive and forget?
Well, I can’t.
I won’t.
In fact, I’m good with never laying eyes on Kenzie Michaels again.
Unfortunately for me, life has other plans.
So when the woman who ripped my heart out of my chest – and stomped on it for good measure – shows up in my town, I’m left dealing with feelings both old and new.
And a single question that rules my every thought:
Do I give in and fight for the future we were supposed to have?

My Review:

So who doesn’t love a good second chance romance? Everyone has that one love in their past that they like to think about what if things had gone differently. This book is one hell of a second chance romance and it is an uphill battle to see if they can get their happily ever after. This results in an emotional rollercoaster ride which will make you laugh, feel sad, frustrated but ultimately leave you smiling. If I am being honest I am not usually a fan of the popular second chance trope, possibly because there is no romance in my past that I would ever want to repeat but after reading this I know I will give this genre more of a chance in the future because this book was fantastic.

Kenzie and Brett were teenage sweethearts that were torn apart by life and people interfering. Brett ends up going to prison for Kenzie and that is the last they see of each other. Brett serves four years before moving to Willow Creek to work for his cell mate, and now best friend Logan. Brett has a very closed off personality and he is angry at the world but mostly he is trying to forget about the only girl who has ever made him feel anything. While he has built a good life for himself surrounded by a great group of friends, he knows that there is something still missing and no amount of sleeping around with random women can fill that void.

When Brett went to prison he left Kenzie without a word until he later sent a letter ending their relationship in the most hurtful of ways and since then she has gone out of her way to please others and be exactly what they expect of her. She has changed who she is to meet the perfect expectations of her family and this involves the ideal guy, Dean. But the problem is that Dean, who was chosen by her parents, does not get her even the slightest bit excited and doesn’t know the real Kenzie. The problem is that her body has not been excited by anyone since the boy who cast her aside.

Twelve years later fate intervenes when Kenzie travels to the small town of Willow Creek for work and her car breaks down resulting in her needing to leave it in Logan’s garage awaiting a part to fix it. Meaning Kenzie will have to stay in town and hopefully not bump into the boy she still dreams about.

Brett and Kenzie’s reunion is far from smooth and while old feelings are very quick to resurface, so do the feelings of anger and resentment that have not been dealt with and have festered over the years. Can they work through their issues and get their happily ever after or has the past changes them irreparably?

Wow, I cannot express how much I love Brett and he should be everyone’s ideal guy. Not only did he sacrifice his freedom for love, which in itself is heroic and sexy, but then when he realised his feelings he embraced them instead of running from what was difficult. Kenzie was such an intriguing character and initially I was unsure if I liked her. She was very much under her parents thumb but feeling stifled she knew that she needed to get away from the fake life she had created and find herself. With the help of Brett she was able to grow as a person and with his love and support she grew in confidence and achieve things for herself. Her development as a character and her growth as a woman finding her own feet was beautiful to witness and ultimately led me to really like Kenzie.

I loved Brett and Kenzie’s relationship so much. This book would be described as a mixture of second chance romance and enemies to lover but am not sure these labels do the book justice at all. I think that Brett and Kenzie were always destined to be together but life, and a series of awful events and interferences got in the way. When they first find each other there is a lot of anger and hatred but I think the way they feel is more out of frustration and longing than genuine hatred. There is a very fine line between love and hate which is clear in this book. Their love is so sweet and passionate that it left me smiling. Reading this book had me feeling like maybe soul mates do exist because that is the only way I can describe the obvious need and pull that they have to each other. True love that will last a life time was enough to pull me in and it kept me reading into the early hours of the morning because I just could not put the book down.

This is the first book that I have read by A.K MacBride but I know for sure that it won’t be the last. This is book 2 in the Willow Creek series, but they are all interconnected standalones so you do not need to have read book one. Book one tells the story of Logan, who I loved in this book, but I did not feel like I was missing information and I did not get confused at any point. However, I do want to know more about Logan so you can be sure I am going to go and download book one straight away. The way A.K MacBride writes the secondary characters is fantastic as it draws you in just the smallest amount, enticing you so that you want more from them, ultimately hooking you into the series. I am hoping next that sexy, cocky vet Chase will find his happily ever after because I loved him. I am looking forward to reading the next instalment but it will have very big shoes to fill as this book is amazing!

My Review:

This book is a fantastic contemporary romance book that is part of a series, but each book are standalones. I have not read any of the other books and you do not need to have. Some of the characters and couples that have featured in the previous books do appear in this one, so it may be useful to have read them. But at no point did I feel like I was missing any information or that I could not follow the storyline. The book reads very well as an individual.

The story focuses on Becca who finds out that she has inherited her friend Marigold’s apartment complex but the only way she can claim it is if she is married. Before Marigold dies Becca was engaged but he dumped her and moved on to someone he said he loved more and therefore Marigold did not have chance to change her will. Seeing an opportunity to claim the $10 million complex for his own Marigold’s nephew challenges the will and says that the inheritance should be his if she remains unmarried. So Becca turns to an agency to find a fake husband to marry in order to save her home and that of her friends. But when the would-be groom decides to back out on the wedding day Becca starts to drown her sorrows and eat every carb in sight and she gets talking to the handsome and enigmatic best man, Fitz who offers to be her husband.

Fitz is a world renowned playboy with a famous reputation for parties, booze and girls. He is portrayed as being a wealthy trust-fund kid who strolls through life easily with no concerns. But the more time Becca and Fitz spend together the more they learn that they show they both present to the world is not really who they are. So they spend time together discovering the real Becca and Fitz which results in them falling in love. But what will happen when their marriage contract expires and they no longer need to be married? Can Becca let go of her past and believe that she is enough and can be loved by someone like Fitz?

As a main character I really liked Becca and she was very believable. She has spent her whole life trying to please people and doing what is best for them but throughout this book we see her confidence grow and watching her self-esteem grow was beautiful to witness. But I also loved how she has a tendency to eat her feelings! Her go to when she is stressed is to eat every carb going and this made her a much more relatable and believable character for me and I liked that it didn’t cause her to have an unhealthy body image.

But boy oh boy, who does not want a guy like Fitz in their life. It is very obvious from the start that he is a lot kinder, more caring and funnier than is portrayed in the media. He too develops a lot throughout this book and watching him grow into a stronger person and seeing him embrace himself and his life choices was so lovely to witness. But most of all I loved Fitz’s humour. The way he wasn’t afraid to embarrass himself to make Becca feel good or comfortable made him so endearing. Who doesn’t want to be serenaded in a restaurant by a hot guy singing a Backstreet Boys song!

Overall, I thought this book was absolutely great. It is such a sweet, funny and beautiful story that will make you feel a bit of a tingle and leave you smiling. You will be thinking about this book long after you have finished reading. I would very much recommend this book!

My Boss, The Billionaire (The Billionaire Kings Book 2) by Serenity Woods

Book Blurb:

Never fall in love with your boss…

I’ve worked for Leon for two years now.
Which means I’ve been in love with Leon for about, oh, 730 days, give or take.
He’s tall, gorgeous, hardworking, and strict. Most of the staff at Noah’s Ark are scared of him. But I can handle the Lion King, as I like to call him.
I’m his PA. I book his dental appointments, pick up his dry cleaning, keep his diary, walk his dogs, and organize his accounts.
I know him as well as a wife would, although unfortunately without the added benefits that role would bring.
I’d tell him how I feel, but he’s made it quite clear he’s against relationships at work, so I know it’s never going to happen unless I leave the Ark, and I love my job.
Then, on the day the Prime Minister’s supposed to arrive at the Ark, his crazy dog knocks me over and gives me a concussion.
And, as if I’m Snow White needing to be awoken from her slumber, Leon kisses me.
Crap. Now we’re in trouble.
How on earth do you un-forget being kissed by your handsome prince?

The Billionaire Kings is set in Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary and features the sons of the heroes from the USA Today bestselling Three Wise Men series of contemporary holiday romances. The books are all standalones, and you don’t have to have read the Three Wise Men to enjoy The Billionaire Kings, but if you have read them you will hopefully have fun meeting up with Brock, Charlie, and Matt occasionally in these stories! This new series takes place approximately thirty years after the Three Wise Men, but it’s not set ‘in the future’. I just thought it would be fun to write a new series that had a connection to one of my favorites. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it!

Book 1: My Best Friend, the Billionaire
Book 2: My Boss, the Billionaire

My Review:

After reading the first book and being introduced to the characters I knew I would enjoy reading this but I loved the book so much more than I was expecting. This is the second book in the billionaire series which focuses on the cousins who set up and run Noah’s Ark, an animal sanctuary and veterinary clinic. The previous book gave us the story of Hal and Izzy but this book centres around Hal’s cousin Leon and his PA Nix. The books in the series are all standalones so you do not need to have read the first book but it does help.

Leon is the HR manager of the Ark and is smart, controlled and incredibly serious. His job is his priority and he want to run the business to the best standards possible and that means he does not approve of inter-office relationships. This is a big problem because for the last two years he has been infatuated with his bright, sexy and curvy as hell PA Nicola ‘Nix’ Dixon.

Leon is not easy to work with as he likes things done a certain way and so finding a PA that works well with him is not easy. But he and Nix click and she is able to calm and help him even when he doesn’t think help is needed. From day one Leon has kept Nicola at arm’s length and has remained completely professional except for the rare glimpses that he wants more. This leaves Nix wondering what happened in Leon’s past to make him feel that way and is there any way that they could work past it because she has been in love with her boss since she started. But she is very used to secrets as she has more than a fair share of her own.

What starts off as a professional road trip turns into a birthday celebration for Nix that begins to blur the lines between employee and boss. But will the blurring of the lines change everything forever?

I loved the secrets in this book and when they came to light it became so obvious why both characters had personality flaws. When it came to Nicola, I felt a warmth to her that I rarely feel for female leads and I wanted to hug and almost mother her. But at the same time I felt so incredibly proud of her development and the strength of character that she showed.

But Leon, oh my word, by the end I had so many emotions running around my head for him. First I wanted to shake him, then hit him and then cheer for him before kissing him. I experienced a complete rollercoaster of emotions because in a short space of time Leon had to re-evaluate his life and decide what means more to him; his past, his pride or his woman. Despite Leon’s playboy millionaire lifestyle, which I thought I would hate, I actually didn’t. Leon is so kind and caring that it moved me.

It is not often that I read a book about a billionaire playboy and would want to date the male lead but oh boy did that change when I met Leon. His personality draws you in but the sex scenes are the ones that will really win you over. They are sizzling, slow and dirty that will make you crave the sex you read about.

This book featured all of the secondary characters that we were introduced to in the first book and we got a catch up with Hal and Izzy. I cannot wait to read the next book which will feature Albie and Remy. In both books Albie always drew my attention and so I am looking forward to finding out more about him. But now he needs to compete with Leon to see who is the best King boy. Overall, I loved this book so much and could not find fault with it at all. I thoroughly recommend both books in this series.

My Best Friend, The Billionaire (The Billionaire Kings Book 1) by Serenity Woods

Book Blurb:

Never fall in love with your best friend…

I met Hal on the first day of high school.
I also fell in love with Hal on the first day of high school.
But although we were good friends from the start, I knew he’d never be mine.
He’s gorgeous, confident, sexy, and he’s also incredibly rich.
I’m scarred – physically and emotionally – quiet, and my family has always been poor. The two of us are poles apart.
So I’ve trained myself not to think of him in that way.
Not to think of kissing him, undressing him slowly.
Of sliding beneath the bedclothes. Of having his hands on my skin.
I don’t think of it at all.
I can’t. Because Hal never stays with a girl for long, and if he were to have me, then leave me, my heart would break into a million pieces, and I’d never be able to put it together again.
But then he tells me he’s fallen in love with someone. I try to guess who, and he just smiles.
“Izzy,” he says patiently, “it’s you.”
Oh no.

My Review:

This book is the start of a new series that follows on from the Three Kings series, but focuses on their children this time. You do not need to have read the other series to read this one. This book is such a beautiful book and the only way I can describe the feeling I got after reading it is that I felt light and airy. It was literally so sweet and beautiful but with some sexy moments to help keep the heat going. It is set in New Zealand and focuses on Noah’s Ark which is a veterinary clinic and animal shelter. This story focuses on one of the owners Hal and his best friend Izzy.

Hal is a vet who works at Noah’s ark, which he co-owns with his family. As well as being a vet he is also part of the animal rescue team with his best friend and fellow vet Izzy. While everyone knows that he, along with his family, are billionaires, it is not obvious as Hal does not spend his money recklessly instead choosing what he needs for comfort. He is offered an opportunity to advance his career that makes him re-evaluate his life in general. Starting with his feelings for his long term best friend Izzy.

Even though vet Hal is well known for being a man whore he was always been open and respectful to the women that he is with. They know the situation is short term and he never misleads them. For the last year he has been in his first long term relationship with a veterinary nurse he works with called Rosie. However, their relationship has not been working for a while and when he finds that she has cheated he decides to ends things. But Rosie is not ready to let go!

Izzy is a quiet, sheltered, sweet girl who has such a passion for her work that it has almost taken over her entire life. But she is plagued by a lack of self-confidence and body image hatred that comes from the horrendous burn scars that cover most of the right side of her body. She wears long sleeve, high neck tops so that nobody ever sees them. So when her best friend Hal, who she has secretly been crushing on for years, finally confesses that he has feelings for her she does not believe him and does not feel that she is worth the love.

Watching Hal and Izzy’s relationship blossom and go from friends to more is just plain beautiful. The way that Hal took care of her and was so aware of her feelings and the negativity that she felt for herself was so great to witness. Seeing him help her to believe that their love is real and that it can last was so sweet that I couldn’t help but smile.

Most billionaire books that I have read feature a hot headed, alpha male with a ‘my way or the highway’ approach who is constantly flashing his cash. But this book is completely different. Hal uses his money when he needs to for comfort so that he can have the best or give Izzy the best but neither he nor Izzy care about the money and this was refreshing to see. I also liked the fact that Hal wasn’t your typical alpha male because he was in touch with Izzy’s feelings and did what he could to put her first. But the passion and heat between them was enough to scorch the page and Hal certainly became an alpha in the bedroom. For all of these reasons and so many more I really liked Hal as a character. He knew what he wanted in life and he went after it, doing whatever he could to make it work. But I also loved Izzy’s character and enjoyed seeing her grow from being so broken and fragile that she didn’t believe anyone could or should love her to being brave enough to accept that the future is not known and that if she is going to take a chance on anything then it should be her love for Hal.

This is a sweet, sensual book that will draw you into the world of Noah’s Ark. Obviously there are obstacles and the path to true love never does run smoothly but it will just keep you more gripped, holding out for that happily ever after. I loved the secondary characters we were introduced to and can’t wait to read more about them and watch their stories unfold as the billionaire series develops. But as for this book, if you are looking for something sweet, beautiful and sexy that will make you happy and leave you with a smile on your face and an aching need for more of the Noah’s ark crew then this is the book for you.

LOKI: Filthy Modern Vikings (The Jorgensen’s Book 1) by ChaShiree M and M.K. Moore

Book Blurb:

Loki

Tabby was a surprise. One I didn’t see coming. Now that I have her, I am never letting go.
Her family may not approve. That’s their fucking problem.
I will get my ring on her hand, my baby in her belly and my last name behind hers faster than she can get unpacked.
I dare someone try to stop me.

Tabitha Gentry is MINE!!!!

My Review:

This is a short yet sweet, sexy Novella. Although it is the first in a new series and can be read as a standalone, a lot of the characters and events that are referenced feature in the authors other books The Moosehead series and the Queen of Hearts Ink series. I was a new reader to both of these authors and have not read any of the other series. It is something that I would recommend doing before reading Loki as at times I did find it very confusing and difficult to keep, almost like I was missing vital information.

In this book we are introduced to the seven Jorgensen siblings, who this series will feature around. But this instalment centres around chef Loki and Tabitha (Tabby). Loki is your typical bossy alpha male who knew he wanted Tabitha from the minute that he saw her. Tabby is a young, sweet but naïve virgin who lacked a lot of self-confidence. When they meet Loki decides that he wants Tabby and he knows that he wants to be in for the long haul but Tabby is convinced that Loki will tire of her and will not want to stay with her forever. Can Loki convince her that his love is forever?

Even though this book is a novella and therefore quite short I felt like this relationship moved at lightening quick speed and it almost felt unbelievable that Loki would meet Tabby and decide he wants to spend the rest of his life with her at the first meeting. It almost made the characters feel a little unrealistic. But their chemistry was sweet and the way Loki cared for Tabby and helped build her confidence was lovely to witness. I would recommend reading this book, but I think to get the most out of it you should read the other books first. I am eager to see which sibling is featured in the next book!
